since dx3, i have not been able to use any object desktop app systray...i always get "Stardock MCP not found or wrong version. Systray support disabled."error window... i only get this message through desktop x, but objectdock, objectbar, rightclick, and dx are all affected...how does one go about getting a "correct" version of mcp?

It's installed/activated through Stardock Central.

Check that you've got the latest release version: 2.10.343 Build 95 (AFAIK!)
and check that you've got SDMCP activated: Settings->General (tick both MCP related checkboxes).

A reboot may also be necessary.

Do this and if it still doesn't work there's further steps to check, but let's get the basics straightened out first

Thanks for responding...both mcp checkboxes are ticked, but not sure how to verify my version of sdmcp..?

The only way I can think of is to rightclick the dll & exe files to get their properties, but...

I assume that provided you have the latest SDC your SDMCP will also be updated to the correct level anyway. Maybe a Stardock person can jump in here and confirm/correct?

Still having same problems...sdmcp IS 2.10.343 build 95...there is no "(AFAIK!)" at the end though...everything else works just fine...as far as i can tell, SDC is up to date...I do have registered versions of all apps.

Do you have a C:\Program Files\Common Files\Stardock folder?

If so, make sure that the files scmcp.exe and mcpcore.dll are in there.

If they're missing you may be lucky and they're still in a Stardock Central download backup folder. You'll have to search your HDD for them in that case.

Well, we're on to something here...can not find either file anywhere on HD...any ideas on how i might go about getting them back? Sadly, i'm not a big archiver, so i rarely back up anything...doh!!!

~Not sure this will help but I had a similar problem. Wisop Koasati gave me these directions and everything worked ok after. I also tried searching puter several times for that sdmcp.exe and it never showed up..yet was there all along. just " hidden " by windows.
Here are his directions along with my posted question:

(fairyy)Since then..I cant get it back ( sys tray ) on any other applications ..." Right Click " menu ..I check off the System tray option and all I see is the separator ..Any DesktopX Themes..same thing..no sys tray ....I have tried uninstalling/reinstalling...

This is definitely an MCP problem.... look in C:\Program Files\Common Files\Stardock .... place sdmcp.exe in your startup folder. (you can double click the file to start it, without a reboot, and your systray should work.)

sdmcp.exe
**********************************

Windows hides file extensions by default, never made any sense to me to do that, but that's MS for you. Go to Tools > Folder Options > View tab...... un-tick "Hide extensions for known file types" > OK.

Open C:\Documents and Settings\USERNAME\Start Menu\Programs\Startup
Add a shortcut to sdmcp.exe there.

fairyy...good pointer, but no luck...the file just is not there...nbot sure how i lost it though...i'm thinking iconpackager 3 may be the culprit instead of dx3...lost all my shell icons at the same time, but managed to get them back, but this has me stumped!

i'm thinking iconpackager 3 may be the culprit

have you tried unregistering the iprepair.dll? As Far As I Know it was the main culprit from iconpackager.

from an earlier post on IPkgr":

If you wish to disable an existing copy of it, Start / Run /

regsvr32.exe /u "c:\program files\stardock\object desktop\iconpackager\iprepair.dll"

sdmcp IS 2.10.343 build 95.

that's the build of Stardock Central - the browser/updater/archiver/ect'er

my sdmcp.exe version is showing as 0.0.5.11

Chris TH hasn't come back yet, so....

from an earlier post:
For some reason the new SDC install deletes the MCP files from
C:\Program Files\Common Files\Stardock. It seems they have to be there
for SDMCP to startup properly - I think it starts before the Start
Menu->Startup items.

I found them in X:\Program Files\Stardock\SDCentral\Downloads\SDCommon
ie. where your SDC is currently installed and where it is set to
download files into.

Copy them back into the first dir, reboot and you're away.

Note that this occurred for me both when first updating to the latest
SDC beta, and then reverting back to the last SDC release.

Something to be looked for the next release I guess.

I bolded the other folder to look in.

Now that you mention it..think my shell icons are still missing. Hope you sort it out soon.

okay, I looked in the above and I have nada.
I seem to recall having trouble before, just can't remember what it was.
I do remember I went into C:\Program Files\Stardock\SDCentral and double clicked the restore shortcut, and the updated SDC and the problem was solved.

WooHoo!!
Problem is solved!!! I had apparently told SDC to archive backup files to my D drive (what was I thinking?!?!?)...you guys got me looking in obscure folders that i would never have thought of...copied the files to C drive, dragged mcp into startup, a quick reboot and all is well!
Thanks to all of you for your help...you DID help!
This ends this thread!
